A high school student from Lindsborg was one of the very first to see “The Last Jedi” in Salina.  The much anticipated “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” debuted across the country, and in Salina on Thursday night.

General Manager Sid Finnell at the AMC Classic Salina 10 Theaters in the Central Mall told KSAL News that she anticipated  a strong opening to the latest segment of the Star Wars story.  “It’s going to be another, huge hit,” she said.

Several of the early shows were sell-outs, and Finnell and her staff were ready for the large crowd. They provided a festive atmosphere, even arranging for a costumed light sabre fight.

 

An excited 16-year-old Carson Byers, a student at Smoky Valley High School, was first in line to see the new movie. He headed to Salina from Lindsborg right after classes dismissed Thursday afternoon. Byers and a couple of his friends lined up shortly after 4:00 to assure themselves good seats for the first screening at 7:00.

Byers told KSAL News that he purchased his tickets way back in October, when they first became available. “I’m a big Star Wars fan,” he said. He added that the movies are fun, saying “I’m just excited to see all of the twists and turns and what’s going to happen.”

 

After the movie ended, Byers said that “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” did not disappoint. “There was a lot of stuff that didn’t expect to see happen, it was really good, I enjoyed it,” he said. “I’m excited to see what comes next,” he concluded.

 

“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is the eighth or ninth movie in the series, depending on how you count, and continues the adventures of Rey, Finn, Chewbacca, Luke Skywalker, and for one last time, Princess Leia. Rian Johnson directs “The Last Jedi,” the second film in the sequel trilogy.
