Black Pride Colorado Announce Event Line Up

Black Pride Colorado was founded through YouthSeen (a nonprofit agency dedicated to supporting Colorado’s LGBTQ youths and their families) to celebrate, liberate, and engage the Black LGBTQ community. This year’s program takes place from June 8 to June 19, a date known as Juneteenth, and it will honor the rich heritage and contributions of the Black LGBTQ community.

Last week, organizers officially announced the lineup of events for this year’s festivities. Program highlights include the Gospel Drag Brunch that showcases Denver’s finest Black Drag performers, a family-friendly “Queer Cookout,” and a collaboration with Denver Film that brings a FREE block party to the transformed parking lot at the Sie Film Center.

Join Black Pride Colorado for an advanced screening of “THE BLACKENING” which centers around a group of Black friends who reunite for a Juneteenth weekend getaway only to find themselves trapped in a remote cabin with a twisted killer. Directed by Tim Story (Ride Along, Think Like A Man, Barbershop) and Dwayne Perkins (The Amber Ruffin Show, Brooklyn Nine-Nine).

The renowned “Strange Fruit of Black Excellence” gala proudly returns in its third year that recognizes exceptional outstanding individuals in the LGBTQ community. YouthSeen will present the prestigious “Asante” award to a community member who consistently champions diversity and empowerment, acknowledging their significant contributions. The gala will also honor deserving individuals with the esteemed “Ally & Accomplice” award, paying tribute to their unwavering support for the causes of the LGBTQ community

.

“(Black Pride Colorado) is excited to, once again, present an inspiring and inclusive program of activities that highlight the intersection of Black Pride and LGBTQ empowerment,” says Dr. Tara Jae, executive director and co-founder of BPC.

“Our Pride celebrations stand as a testament to our unwavering dedication to creating spaces that uplift, empower, and honor the diverse experiences of Black LGBTQ individuals. Through these events, we foster meaningful connections, amplify voices, and actively contribute to the continuous growth and enrichment of our community.”

On Sunday, June 11, join Black Pride Colorado and Reynard Social as they present Gospel Drag Brunch! A one-of-a-kind gospel and drag musical experience. This all-you-can-eat brunch will have you singing and dancing while being entertained by some of Colorado’s best drag entertainers. The event will be held from 11:30- 3:00 p.m. at the Thompson Hotel on Market St. and is set to be hosted by the fabulous  JUICCY Misdemeanor.

The festivities will culminate on the officially recognized Juneteenth, with a special showing of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever at Red Rocks Amphitheater. The ticketed event encourages filmgoers to dress in Wakanda-inspired attire. The evening will begin with a pre-film music performance by singer-songwriter Aquile, who was a contestant on NBC’s The Voice.
