INDIANA (WANE) — With the 2024 Paris Olympics just around the corner, many are left wondering, what states create the most gold medalists?

In a study completely by KingCasinoBonus.uk, they looked at the total number of athletes that come from each state who have won a gold medal at one of the latest Summer or Winter Olympic Games.

Producing the most gold medalists in recent years is California, with a total of 78 gold medal-winning athletes out of the six Olympic games. Allyson Felix, now a retired track and field athlete reigning from Los Angeles, holds seven gold medals, three silver medals and one bronze.

Coming in second is Florida, with 24 gold-medal-winning athletes from the last six games. Caeleb Dressel, a professional swimmer from Green Cove Springs, won a total of seven gold medals from Tokyo 2020 and Rio 2016.

Taking the bronze medal is New York, producing a total of 21 gold medal-winning athletes. Ryan Lochte, from Rochester, is a 12-time Olympic medalist and six-time gold medal-winner and is the second most decorated swimmer in Olympic history.

Indiana ranks tenth on the list, with ten gold medalists. Skylar Diggins-Smith, now a player for the Seattle Storm, won gold with her team in Tokyo 2020. Indianapolis’ Lauren Holiday won gold with the USA soccer team at both Beijing 2008 and London 2012.
