New Delhi: There have been repeated incidents of shooting in United States (US) in the past few months, be it at schools, shops and stores or in residential areas. A new shooting incident has shocked the US in Charlotte, North Carolina which has resulted in three casualties of police officials, injury of five others and one of the attackers has also been found dead. According to the Charlotte Police, the attack began in a residential area in the east of the Charlotte when the police arrived; the standoff lasted for three hours and two shooters were responsible for this attack. US Shooting: 3 Police Officials Shot Dead In Charlotte

As mentioned earlier, a major shooting incident occurred in Charlotte of North Carolina, United States. Three law enforcement officers lost their lives in a devastating shooting incident at a residence in Charlotte, North Carolina. Among the fallen were a deputy US Marshal and two local task force officers, confirmed by a source familiar with the matter speaking to CNN. Though police had not publicly confirmed the fatalities, a news conference has been scheduled at 5:40 pm (ET) to shed light on the event. The incident unfolded at a residence on Galway Drive in Charlotte, where multiple officers were shot Monday afternoon, as per authorities.

North Carolina Shooting: 5 Injured, Suspect Killed

According to a report by BBC, while three law enforcement officers were shot dead, five others were injured and after the standoff, one of the two suspected attackers was killed in the front yard of the house which had been barricaded by the police. The injured officers were trying to serve a warrant for a wanted criminal for having a firearm; this is when the gunfire began and officers also began returning the fire. Residents of the nearby houses were asked to stay inside and schools in that area were also on a lockdown.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Warning About Attack

“The residence on Galway Drive is now clear, and the area is safe. Residents no longer need to shelter in place,” Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said in a Monday afternoon X post. One suspect was found dead, and two other people were found in the home and are being held by police for questioning, according to the post. “Numerous law enforcement officers struck by gunfire in active situation,” the department had said earlier on X.

What Happened At Charlotte Shooting In North Carolina?

The incident took place at the 5000 block of Galway Drive, police said, and a SWAT team was on scene. Police said the “threat is isolated” to that area and asked neighborhood residents to shelter-in-place. In response to the tragic events, Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles expressed profound sorrow, extending her condolences to the affected officers and their families. Lyles urged the community to unite in support and prayer for those impacted by the harrowing incident, CNN reported.

As said before, shooting incidents in US is unfortunately not a rarity; just last week, an 18-year-old girl was fatally shot at the campus of the Delaware State University before 2 AM ET. Another incident of US shooting was at Memphis, Tennessee last week when a Block Party turned deadly with two people being shot dead and 14 being hospitalised after injuries.
