McCormick executive on business visit

One of Cuba’s outstanding business leaders, Señor José M. Bosch, president of the Rum Bacardi Company of Santiago de Cuba — makers of the famous Bacardi rums — flew in yesterday by air from Camagüey, Cuba, on a brief visit.

Señor Bosch, who is also one of the top directors of the McCormick Shipping Corporation, is visiting Jamaica to inspect the shipping corporation’s interests here.
The McCormick Shipping Corporation owns the Windsor Hotel in St Ann’s Bay, the Dunn’s River Falls and Beach, and recently acquired the Titchfield Hotel in Port Antonio.

Arriving at Palisadoes Airport at 11 a.m. in a private twin-engined Beechcraft, the Cuban businessman was met by Frank Fraser, Jamaican executive of the McCormick Shipping Corporation, who came here last week from Miami.

In an interview, Señor Bosch said that his mission to Jamaica was primarily to visit the Titchfield Hotel and other business interests owned by the McCormick Shipping Corporation.

“If it is possible, I also hope to make a survey of general conditions for future investments,” he added.

Yesterday, he and Fraser motored to the Titchfield Hotel in Port Antonio where they are staying as guests of movie actor Errol Flynn, who formerly owned the hotel and is now on the directorate.

Señor Bosch has been with the Rum Bacardi Company for 23 years. He became president of the organisation nine years ago. A keen business leader, Señor Bosch served as treasurer in the Cuban government three years ago.

He plans to leave Jamaica today.

The twin-engined Beechcraft was piloted yesterday by Capt Joe Balbón of the Bacardi Company, with Ed Segredo as co-pilot.
