If you’re a fan of Colleen Hoover’s work, there’s a lot in store on streaming platforms over the next year for you! Hoover’s bestselling psychological thriller, 'Verity' has been announced as a TV adaptation by Amazon MGM studios. The announcement comes hot on the heels of the upcoming 'It Ends With Us' TV series, which is an adaptation of one of Hoover’s books of the same name.
What Is Verity About?
‘Verity’ is a horror romance novel following the story of Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer who witnesses a horrifying incident in New York City. After a stranger, Jeremy Crawford, helps her out, the two manage to connect after a series of events. Offering her a dream opportunity, Jeremy tasks Lowen with finishing the unfinished manuscript of his late wife’s book series.
In desperate need of the money, Lowen accepts and job and moves into the Crawford home to take inspiration from where Verity kept her notes. However, as she uncovers more and more about the seemingly perfect Crawford family and the events that led to Verity’s death, she realizes that there’s more than what meets the eye.
One of Hoover’s bestselling books, the psychological thriller elements that she weaves into the narrative are going to be an absolute delight to see on the big screen. The nature with which the suspense keeps building up throughout the story also fits perfectly for a visual format.
What Has Been Announced About The Adaptation So Far
From what we know so far, the production team behind ‘Verity’ actually boasts a lot of reputation to their name, including Hillary Seltz, an excellent screenplay writer known for her work on thrillers like The Unforgivable and Insomnia. There are also producers Nick Antosca and Alex Hedlund, who are known for their horror-thriller work on Hannibal and Chucky respectively.
With such a talented team perfectly fit for the genre and such captivating source material to work with, there’s a lot of hope amongst fans that the novel’s thriller and suspenseful elements will be preserved as they were on the pages. Although Amazon Studios hasn’t announced any of the casting or a release date yet, there’s a lot to look forward to with this adaptation, with the novel’s exploration of themes like family abuse and trauma making an ever-relevant story for newer generations.
